Two years back, when I had first moved to Hyderabad, this Ohri's Cuisine Court's Metro was the first place I had gone out for dinner to. Two years later, I was back here on an invite by the management for a review session at Ming's Court.
Heading out for lunch last Saturday, we reached around 12.30 in the afternoon, and were made comfortable in one of the Private Dining Rooms of the restaurant. Not just the PDRs, but every table in the restaurant is equipped with a rotating part, that would help pass on the food easily.
Taking a look around the entire floor will give you a feel of the rustic charm of a lavish fine dine. There was a bell on the table, to signal for the server, rather than having to call them out. The cutlery is another offshoot of the classic theme. And the view of the mini waterfall!
Recommendation: Get the table next to the waterfall view. There couldn't be a more perfect indoor setting, ever.
Once you get over the place, it is time to indulge. I have been slightly wary of the Chinese food, as the desi versions are quite spicy for my liking.
Here, first we were served two salads: Kimchi, and Cucumber. The cucumbers were very refreshing and a respite from the afternoon heat. The kimchi was well done, too.
Next on, we were served the Manchow Soup. I am not a soup person. But this soup was another level of delight. It was flavourful and of the right consistency.
Then came the starters. First one was the Veg Chilly Stick. This is a must try and you'll find it difficult to stop at just one Second was the Crackling Spinach. Bits of spinach leaves, fried with nuts and a distinct crackling, sure to awaken the Popeye in you!
As for the mains, we were served Bamboo Rice, Triple Schezwan Rice and Vegetables in Schezwan Sauce. Bamboo rice was a first for me, so I don't know how it's supposed to be. But, to me, it felt quite right. The Schezwan rice and vegetables were quite a wonder. I had expected them to burn my tongue, but instead they were flavourful without the chilly.
The whole notion of Chinese being extra spicy was altered, with simple yet flavour packed dishes.
The desserts that we were served were the Fried Ice-cream and Brownie with Vanilla Ice-cream. The fried ice-cream was coated with coconut dust, and had a drizzling of sugar syrup. This is yet another must try here! Didn't quite enjoy the brownie, as it was a bit hard for my liking.
Alongside the food, we had been served with Fruit Punch and Apple Cranberry Mojito. Though the Mojito was very refreshing, Fruit Punch fared better for me, but that depends upon personal taste.
We thought we were done, when each of us got a plastic wrapped cookie, only to realise it was a Fortune Cookie! The messages inside were like the final cherry on the cake.
The servers are really revering, courteous and well mannered, with the manager, Mr. Fareed, being constantly on his toes to serve us. Really loved the experience of being at one of Ohri's oldest thriving outlets!
