Churros is the new fad that refuses to die down. And the newest entrant in Hyderabad's churro scene is Toro Churros. Originally from New Zealand, the brand has a store in Mumbai, and this is their second outlet in India. The young owners of Mumbai's master franchisee have personally setup the place to match the standards to the international ones.
It stands at the erstwhile location of Pabrai Ice-cream, on the busy main road of Madhapur. It takes up half the space of a lesser known café, and their side of the walls display what the menu enlists. Seating capacity is not much, but they also have few tables set outside.
Onto the food, broadly speaking, the menu is divided into desserts, savouries and drinks.
🔸 Savouries
🔹Savory Churros: Uncoated churros serves with your preferred dip. It comes in the form of a conical stand, with the dip's cup hanging by the side. We had Chipotle sauce, which was kinda tangy and chatpati, and Cheese and Jalapeño, which was great as it was supposed to be.
🔹Lángos: I have had Lángos before, and though I wouldn't deem this one to be the most authentic, but it serves the purpose. It is basically a flat bread pizza, with a fried base. We had the taste of two: Cheesy Jalapeño, and Peppy Paneer. Would recommend the latter out of the two.
🔸 Desserts
🔹Jumbo Churro: It is basically churro, around half a foot long, and a bit thick, filled with a sauce of our liking. Ours was stuffed with Caramel. It is good, nothing too different, but saves you the trouble of having to reach every time for a dip.
🔹 Churrowich: Two spiral shaped churros, sandwiching a scoop of vanilla ice-cream and fruit loops, and topped with strawberry sauce (our preference), this is best eaten with hands! Though the taste isn't something new, the presentation and the form is unique.
🔹 Torolicious Monster: This was the show stealer. (Psst! Find the making video on my IGTV). So, they have 9 churros, stacked up to make a tower-like structure. There's also 3 scoops of ice-cream, holding it in place. And the list of other ingredients runs somewhat like this: dark chocolate sauce, milk chocolate sauce, white chocolate sauce, nuts, chocolate chips, Oreo, Gems, Nutella, sprinkles and even edible sparkles! Though you may find it a bit overpriced at 650 bucks, it is definitely worth a try.
🔸 Drinks
🔹Oreo Cookie Crumble: From the shakes section, this was my pick, which is but obvious 🤷🏻♀️ Loved the drink! For once, it wasn't too overtly sweet or heavy on the palate.
🔹Lemon Iced Tea: Oh what a cleanser! Firstly, this was a good iced tea that I have had in the longest time. And secondly, it cuts through all the sweetness that you're consuming with its lemony bitter taste.
All their drinks are served in sippers, which you can takeaway and reuse (already put mine to use! ). They're leakproof and quite handy.
Bottom line: The place may look a bit pricey, but the taste makes up for it. The raw materials come in from New Zealand, to keep the brand's standards intact, and it shows in the way they put up the dishes. Let this be the next fix for your churro cravings.
